Egypt booked a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 after beating Australia 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Friday. The exciting Round of 32 match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time before Egypt kept their cool to secure the victory.
Egypt made a strong start and scored in the 13th minute through Emam Ashour. Australia fought back in the second half and leveled the score in the 55th minute after an own goal by Mohamed Hany.
Both teams created chances, but neither side could find another goal during the rest of normal time or extra time. The match was decided by penalties, where Egypt scored four times while Australia managed only two.
