Dubai to Ban Trucks on Emirates Road During Evening Peak Hours Starting January 2025

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police have announced a new restriction on truck movement along Emirates Road towards Sharjah. This rule will apply to the stretch between Al Awir Street and Sharjah during evening peak hours, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, effective January 1, 2025.

Why the Ban?

The move aims to:

  • Reduce traffic congestion and ease the flow of vehicles.
  • Enhance road safety, particularly during busy hours.
  • Increase the capacity of roads for private cars.

This measure is part of RTA’s broader strategy to limit truck movement on Dubai’s key roads, especially during peak hours.

Expanded Restrictions on Truck Movement

Dubai already enforces truck movement bans across major roads, such as:

  • Al Ittihad Street, Meydan Street, and all crossings.
  • Sheikh Zayed Road and residential areas near Sharjah, including Al Mizhar, Al Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena, where trucks are prohibited from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

In areas with medium traffic, such as Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street, truck restrictions are applied during specific times:

  • 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM
  • 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
  • 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Expert Insights

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei of Dubai Police explained, “This decision was made after a thorough study of road safety and traffic patterns. The restriction aims to reduce accidents caused by the interaction of trucks and smaller vehicles during peak hours.”

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, added, “This new ban aligns with our long-term strategy to minimize traffic congestion and enhance safety on Dubai’s roads. The initiative is implemented in coordination with key partners, including Dubai Police, DP World, and Dubai Airports.”

What to Expect

From January 2025, trucks will need to adjust their schedules to comply with these expanded restrictions. The goal is to make Dubai’s roads safer and smoother for all users, especially during high-traffic periods.
