Dubai launches smart rescue robots and drones to make beaches safer

Dubai: Dubai Municipality has introduced a new smart safety system at public beaches. The system uses rescue robots in the water and flying drones in the air to help save people faster. This new step shows Dubai’s plan to use modern technology and artificial intelligence to keep beaches safe for everyone.

The new safety system combines two main tools: a water rescue robot and a rescue drone. Together, they help lifeguards find people in trouble quickly and reach them much faster than before.

The rescue robot works in the sea and can move up to five times faster than a lifeguard swimming. It is remote-controlled and can travel as far as one kilometre while the operator keeps it in sight. The robot can also pull up to 500 kilograms, which means it can carry or tow people who need help in the water. It is built to work even when the sea is rough, making rescue work safer and quicker.

Dubai Municipality says this robot is the first of its kind to be used for beach rescue in the Middle East.

Along with the robot, Dubai’s public beaches are also using a water rescue drone. The drone flies over the sea and helps lifeguards see what is happening from the sky. It can quickly reach a person who needs help and land on the water. The drone acts like a “flying lifebuoy.” When it reaches someone in trouble, it can help them stay afloat until lifeguards arrive.

The drone also has a live camera. This camera sends real-time video to lifeguard teams so they can see the situation clearly. This helps them understand the danger and plan the rescue faster.

Both the rescue robot and the drone work together as part of one safety system. Lifeguards monitor the beach from control centers and keep watch on the sea at all times. With help from the drone in the air and the robot in the water, rescue teams can cover large beach areas and respond quickly when someone needs help.

Bader Anwahi, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the city is always working to improve public safety using smart technology. He explained that combining the rescue robot and the rescue drone makes beach safety faster and more efficient. The system not only protects swimmers but also reduces risk for lifeguards during rescue operations.

He added that Dubai wants its beaches to set global standards for safety and visitor confidence. The city is investing in modern rescue technologies to make sure public beaches remain safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.

Dubai Municipality manages all public beaches and canals in the emirate. These include Umm Suqeim 1 Night Beach, Jumeirah 3 Night Beach, Jumeirah 1 Beach, Jumeirah 2 Beach, and Al Mamzar beaches.

All these beaches are supported by trained lifeguards, advanced rescue tools, and continuous monitoring systems. The goal is to provide a safe and comfortable beach experience for residents and tourists throughout the year.
