Dubai Hosts First International Library Conference at Mohammed Bin Rashid Library
Dubai, UAE: The inaugural Dubai International Library Conference (DILC) has officially opened at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. Held under the theme “Our Libraries: Past, Present, and Future,” the event runs from 15th to 17th November, bringing together library and information experts from around the world.
Highlights of the Conference
The conference features over 70 speakers from 27 countries and has attracted nearly 2,000 participants from various professional and cultural backgrounds. These include library specialists, academics, archivists, government officials, and decision-makers.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Ahmad Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, said:
“This conference showcases the UAE’s dedication to advancing libraries as bridges between cultures and hubs of knowledge and innovation. By fostering collaboration, we aim to address challenges, preserve cultural heritage, and support sustainable development.”
The event’s first day included discussions on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern libraries and its potential to shape the future of the industry. Panelists also explored the importance of public libraries in preserving cultural heritage and connecting communities.

Day three will highlight the UAE’s leadership in the use of AI for library services and explore the role of the UAE Academic Libraries Consortium (eFADA) in promoting collaboration among universities.
