Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is working with Shell to help create a cleaner environment and support green energy in the UAE.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, met with Shell’s team, led by Fakher Bader, who is the Country Chair for Iraq and the UAE. They talked about how new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) can help change how the world uses energy.

Shell shared a report called “The 2025 Energy Security Scenarios,” which explains three possible futures where AI helps shape energy use. These ideas can help governments and companies make smart choices and protect the planet.

DEWA also shared updates about the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This is the biggest single-site solar energy project in the world. Right now, it can produce 3,860 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. By 2030, it will grow to 7,260 MW.

The newest phase of the solar park uses smart solar panels that can collect sunlight from both sides. This part alone will bring clean energy to around 540,000 homes and cut down 2.36 million tonnes of harmful carbon emissions every year.

DEWA is building a new headquarters called Al Shera’a. It will be the tallest and biggest government building in the world that makes more energy than it uses. The building is designed to be healthy for people and good for the environment. It will use modern technology like the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and big data to save energy and work smarter.

DEWA wants to become the first utility company in the world that fully uses artificial intelligence. They are already using smart tools to save electricity and water, and their work is being noticed around the world.

In 2024, DEWA had the lowest electricity loss in the world at just 2 percent. Other countries like those in Europe and the USA lose about 6 to 7 percent. DEWA also had the lowest water loss at just 4.5 percent and the shortest power outage time for customers – only 0.94 minutes per year, while the average in Europe is about 15 minutes.

Fakher Bader from Shell said that the company is happy to support the UAE’s plans for clean energy and help build a green economy for the future.
