GIZA: On behalf of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
The event took place in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, along with several world leaders, monarchs, and senior officials from various countries.
The ceremony began with a group photo of attending delegations, followed by a musical performance by an international orchestra. The show featured an impressive display of lights and drones highlighting the harmony between the museum’s modern design and the ancient Pyramids of Giza — a tribute to Egypt’s rich and timeless history.
In his speech, President El-Sisi welcomed the guests and described the Grand Egyptian Museum as a global symbol of culture and heritage, representing Egypt’s contribution to human civilization. The evening ended with artistic presentations showcasing some of the museum’s most famous pieces, including Khufu’s solar boats and treasures from the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
The Grand Egyptian Museum displays one of the world’s largest collections of ancient artefacts, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun, exhibited together for the first time since their discovery in 1922.
Covering 500,000 square meters, the museum overlooks the Giza Pyramids and includes twelve main exhibition halls surrounded by gardens spread across 120,000 square meters. It presents thousands of artefacts spanning Egypt’s history from prehistoric times through the ancient and Greco-Roman periods.
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the event with Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court; Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture; Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; and Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
