ABU DHABI: Bridge Summit 2025 introduced a new documentary called Voice of the Waves by Emirati filmmaker Nahla Al Fahad. The Summit aims to share stories from around the world, and the announcement supported this mission clearly. During the event, Al Fahad spoke to journalists, creators, and media leaders, and she explained that her film tells honest stories that help people understand one another. Because of this, the Summit continues to grow as a place where meaningful ideas and real human stories can shine.
The documentary follows two groups of fisherwomen in Rameshwaram, India, and Jaffna, Sri Lanka. These women lost their husbands, yet they continue to work every day to support their families. They face strong waves, low income, and tough living conditions, but they keep going. As the story unfolds, the ocean becomes more than water. It becomes a symbol of strength, motherhood, and hope. The film shows how these women move forward, even when life becomes difficult, and it invites viewers to see their courage in a new way.
During the press conference, Al Fahad also explained her creative purpose. She said she wants the film to show how women’s lives can connect across different countries and challenges. She believes that honest stories can cross borders and bring people closer. Her new film continues her long-time focus on women’s voices. Earlier, she co-directed The Tainted Veil, which reached the Academy Awards shortlist in 2016.
The documentary is produced by Seven Triple Media and Studios Beyond, and Jibin Jose serves as co-director and research lead. K. S. Sreen Lal manages the cinematography, while Dr. Rajesh James guides the creative direction. In addition, several international partners support the project. Sony Middle East supplied two Venice 2 cameras, Sennheiser Middle East provided audio equipment, and Zeiss Middle East offered Nano Prime lenses. The team has completed two filming schedules so far, and they plan to finish ten more. They expect the entire documentary to be ready in 2027.
By revealing the film at Bridge Summit 2025, the organisers showed their dedication to inspiring trust through stories. The documentary does more than show images; it delivers a deep message about courage, unity, and shared humanity. Through Voice of the Waves, the Summit reminds audiences that media is not only a business. It is also a way to connect people, spark change, and help the world see new perspectives.
