Belgium Beat USA 4-1 to Reach FIFA World Cup Quarter-Finals Against Spain
SEATTLE, July 7: Belgium moved into the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after beating co-hosts the United States 4-1 in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Belgium started the match with confidence and took the lead in the ninth minute when Charles De Ketelaere scored the opening goal.
The United States fought back and leveled the score in the 31st minute through Malik Tillman. However, Belgium quickly answered as De Ketelaere scored his second goal just two minutes later to put his team back in front.
Belgium made it 3-1 in the 57th minute after Hans Vanaken took advantage of a big mistake by the US defense. The American team struggled to recover as Belgium stayed in control for the rest of the match.
Substitute Romelu Lukaku added the fourth goal during stoppage time, giving Belgium a comfortable 4-1 victory.
With this win, Belgium has booked a place in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals. They will now face European champions Spain, who secured a 1-0 win over Portugal earlier on Tuesday.
The quarter-final match between Belgium and Spain is expected to be one of the biggest games of the tournament as both teams aim for a place in the semi-finals.
