Saudi Arabia has achieved another significant milestone in preserving its rich cultural heritage. Al-Faw archaeological site, located southwest of Riyadh, has been officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This remarkable achievement marks the eighth Saudi site to receive this prestigious recognition.

A Window into the Past

Al-Faw boasts a fascinating history dating back over 6,000 years. The site, situated at the crossroads of the Empty Quarter desert and the Tuwaiq mountain range, has yielded a treasure trove of archaeological artifacts, including prehistoric tools, intricate rock carvings, and remnants of ancient settlements. Prince Badr bin Farhan, culture minister and governor of the Royal Commission for AlUla, expressed his pride in this remarkable achievement. He emphasized that the inscription of Al-Faw aligns perfectly with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of preserving national identity and heritage. The prince reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural treasures for future generations.
