Al-Ahli Wins First AFC Champions League Title

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: Al-Ahli claimed their first-ever AFC Champions League Elite title with a 2-0 victory over Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in the final on Saturday at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. The home team’s star-studded lineup, supported by 60,000 fans, dominated the match and completed an unbeaten tournament.
The game saw two goals in the first half. Wenderson Galeno opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a stunning curling shot, assisted by Roberto Firmino. Just before halftime, Franck Kessie added a second goal with a header from Firmino’s cross. Kawasaki Frontale struggled to create chances in the second half, and despite their pressure, they couldn’t break Al-Ahli’s defense.
Firmino, who played a key role in the win, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Riyad Mahrez also came close to scoring a third goal late in the match.
“This victory is for our fans,” said goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. “We wanted to win at home, and we did it.”
Al-Ahli becomes the third Saudi club to win the AFC Champions League, joining Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal. This historic win is a significant achievement for the club and a proud moment for Saudi football.
