AI Applications Highlighted at Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition

The International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition in Riyadh is showcasing cutting-edge technology, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in falconry. Held at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center (RECC) in Malham, this event, organized by the Saudi Falcons Club, runs until October 12, 2024. Visitors can attend various workshops and panel discussions focusing on falconry and the care of falcons.

AI in Falconry Competitions

During a workshop titled “Modern Technologies in Falconry,” Ana Jitariuc, an Italian falconry expert and biotechnology researcher, explained how AI is being used to improve the accuracy of judging in falconry competitions. AI helps evaluate falcons’ performance more precisely, enhancing fairness in competitions.

Giovanni Granati, another Italian falconry expert, artist, and writer, discussed the benefits of AI in falcon hunting. He highlighted how modern technologies, including AI, are transforming traditional falcon hunting, making it more efficient and accurate.

Health Challenges for Falcons: Adenovirus

In a workshop called “Adenovirus in Captive-Bred Falcons,” Mahmoud Hassanein, a professor of avian diseases at King Faisal University, addressed the risks of adenovirus infections in young falcons. He emphasized the importance of preventive measures to protect falcons from both adenovirus and circovirus infections, which can cause severe health issues in captive-bred birds.

Sherif Diab, a professor at the Avian Research Center at King Faisal University, presented a session on “Top Supplements and Additives to Enhance Falcon Health and Performance.” He explained how specific supplements and additives can improve a falcon’s diet, health, and overall performance, especially in races and competitions.

Another key workshop, “Falcon Conservation: Case Studies of Raptor Projects,” was led by Jemima Parry-Jones, chief executive of the International Bird of Prey Centre in Britain. She stressed the need for conservation efforts in falconry, sharing successful projects that transitioned from falcon hunting to protecting raptors in the wild.

A Hub for Falconry Enthusiasts

The exhibition is a hub for falconry lovers, featuring 26 workshops and panel discussions that dive deep into the science, care, and breeding of falcons. Experts, trainers, and researchers from both local and international backgrounds are sharing their knowledge, making this event a must-visit for anyone interested in falcons.

Conclusion

With a mix of modern technology and traditional falconry practices, the International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition provides valuable insights for enthusiasts, showcasing how AI and other innovations are reshaping this ancient sport while promoting conservation and falcon health.
